Why is coal such a great source of electricity? The chart below shows the states with cheapest electricity prices—You’ll notice that these same states are the ones where most of the state’s electricity is generated from coal (except for states with hydroelectricity as the main power source).
The average cost for electricity for the U.S. is 9.88 cents per kilowatt hour (cents/kWh).
